Philadelphia International Airport ranked 5th in the world for having on-time flights in 2022, according to a new review by Cirium, an aviation data and analytics company, writes Marissa Nall and Ryan Sharrow for Philadelphia Business Journal.

PHL was third in on-time percentages when ranked among U.S. airports.

Cirium reported that 82.5 percent of PHL’s flights departed as scheduled. Only Salt Lake City International Airport and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport did better.

American Airlines, the primary carrier at PHL, made 10th among global airlines for on-time flights, with 78.3 percent of flights arriving on time.

It ranked fourth among North American airlines.

These statistics took place while the U.S. aviation industry was coming out of the pandemic, fighting labor shortages and bad summer and winter weather.

“During 2022 airlines had difficulty anticipating the sudden recovery in demand,” Cirium said in a statement. “They had been disappointed on several previous occasions throughout the pandemic, when it looked like demand was picking up, only for it to reverse course in the face of new Covid variants.”

Operations have greatly improved as the industry added workers and adjusted capacity, according to Cirium.
