The Valley Forge Service Plaza on the Pennsylvania Turnpike will have a new mosaic scene on display starting in early 2023 designed by students from Archbishop Carroll High School in Radnor participating in the Art Sparks program, reports Catholic Philly.

The students were invited by the Philadelphia Arts in Education Partnership to participate.

The program invites schools to design artwork for turnpike service plazas across the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

It was created and funded by the PA Council on the Arts and the PA Turnpike Commission.

In September 2022, members of Archbishop Carroll’s Fine Arts Department started to work with students on the semester-long project.

Jessica Liddell, a PA Council on the Arts teaching artist, has been guiding the students oh the mosaic work, along with Loraine Carpenter, the Archbishop Carroll Fine Arts Department Chair, and Timothy Magenta.

On Dec. 2, the school community hosted representatives from the PA Turnpike Commission and PA Council on the Arts along with members of the Art Sparks Committee to view the work.

The project is funded through the Regional PCA Arts in Education Partner with funds from the PCA and Turnpike Commission.
