Ben Feld worked his way to the ultimate event in amateur golf, the U.S. Amateur Championship in Paramus, New Jersey, through the Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, writes Matt Leon for KYW Newsradio.

Feld has been the head men’s golf coach at Drexel University since 2016.

He won the July 13 qualifying tournament at Rolling Green and played this summer in Paramus.

“I felt good about where I was,” said Feld. “My boss over at Drexel, Kerry DiBlasio, was caddying for me that day out at Rolling Green.”

His ultimate moment was on the 18th hole of the qualifier.

“I really didn’t ask until after the final putt dropped on 18, when I was fortunate enough to make a birdie on that hole,” said Feld. “I asked him, ‘Did we do it?’ And he said, ‘Oh yeah.’”

The U.S. Amateur was special for Feld because so many people shared the experience with him.

His stepdad led a group text with 30 plus people, current and former golfers, friends and supporters. The experience was “humbling and overwhelming,” he said.
