The Philadelphia region has plenty of variety when it comes to wetting your whistle, whether it’s a cutting-edge cocktail, a bone-dry wine, or a really good beer.

A more traditional no-frill cocktail drinking experience can be found at the Original Clam Tavern in Clifton Heights, the only Delaware County restaurant to make a list of eight places recommended by the Philadelphia Inquirer for having the best beverage choices.

The focus at this well-known Delco dining spot at 339 E. Broadway Ave. is on seafood, but the bar is worth checking out, writes Jenn Ladd for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Original Clam Tavern provides sweet, boozy signature cocktails and strong, straightforward offerings of the classics (listed on nostalgic “for entertainment only” placemats).

The Old Fashion, for example, mixes bright red maraschino cherries with a thick-cut orange wedge, all served in a heavy glass snifter.

Whiskey sours are made from Banker’s Club and a sour mix from the bar’s soda gun.

Manhattans and martinis include a sidecar of ice.

These no-frill cocktails work perfectly with the seafood offerings at one of Craig LaBan’s favorite old-school fish houses.

As a bonus, enjoy the banter at the bar between the Clam’s long-time staff.
