Wawa Sandwich Offering Means Summer Is Over

It seems a little early to be thinking of Thanksgiving, but as temperatures have eased, some of us, like the folks at Wawa, are ready to launch.

Wawa has reintroduced its holiday sandwich, The Gobbler, in September, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.

So that’s it. Summer’s officially over.

The Gobbler remains a divisive sandwich. Philadelphia Magazine food critic Jason Sheehan, loves it, calling it the best sandwich at Wawa.

“It is comfort on a roll,” writes Sheehan. “A portable Thanksgiving dinner. Warm and sloppy and cheap and delicious all at the same time.”

He’d like to see if offered year-round.

Not everyone agrees.  Fiorillo compared the Gobbler to a “Swanson TV dinner shoved onto a roll.”

There was an unofficial Facebook Gobbler poll that went out to four community groups, including one in Delco, as well as Roxborough, South Philly and the Main Line.

Delco results are mixed, with 37 percent declaring the Gobbler awesome and only 9% finding it gross.

However, 32 percent of us in Delco had never tried it.

One custom response: “It’s actually decent but people hate on it because it’s Wawa. Get it toasted.”
