With how much more prevalent remote jobs are now, perhaps you are starting to wonder if you can finally ditch your commute for good by making the switch. Perhaps uncertainty holds you back, though.

Maybe you worry remote work would require skills that you have not developed.

However, according to CNBC, some transferrable skills will give you a leg up for any remote position. If you are thinking of going remote, it’s not too late to expand your expertise and add these skills to your resume.

Communication

Being remote, your boss can’t just pop by your station in the office to ask how things are going with an assignment. Instead, you will likely be relying on email or Slack to share updates.

You need to be the sort of person who is on top of responding in a timely matter or even providing updates unprompted. And don’t use being remote as an excuse to ghost anyone!

Managing Deadlines

One of the biggest fears of companies reluctant to embrace remote working is that employees will slack off without the oversight of other people on the job.

But if you are good at taking the reins and staying on track, include examples on your resume to show how you excel at time management during projects.

Technology Knowledge

Your knowledge of technology needs to go beyond basic computer savviness. Your digital tools will be what everyone is relying on you to get work done, stay in touch with them, and coordinate projects.

Try and develop a working knowledge of platforms like Zoom, Slack, and Asana, to name a few.

Hiring for remote work is competitive right now, but having skills like these at your disposal could be what puts you at the head of the pack.

Read more about how these skills can get you noticed for the remote job you want in the article from CNBC.
