Broomall Woman’s Wood Projects Turned Into a Business

By

A Broomall woman, Emma McKelvey, has turned her love of creating with wood into “House of Me, a woodworking business, reports Dan Sheridan for 6abc.

She’s been around wood most of her life.

“My dad and my pop pop whose barn this is have always been handymen who have done everything to our houses. I was the one holding the screw gun or running to get another 2 by 4, things like that.”

They taught her the basics and she took it from there, learning all she could.

All wood is different.

“You have to understand what wood works for certain things and how it’s going to affect the end product over time,” Emma says.

She does a lot of custom pieces, like signs and displays, corn holes, coffee tables, home décor, and scroll work.

“It’s not always about making a ton of money. It’s more so about putting my all into things and bringing a little bit of my home into other people’s homes,” she said.

Looking ahead, she says she will keep making things as long as her hands allow her to work, “but we’ll see what the future holds.”

“Hopefully this,” she adds.
