A new specialty coffee house, Camellia Coffee, Is now open in Lansdowne, writes the staff at Sprudge.com.

The new shop is located in a former thrift shop in a 100-year-old building at 20 N. Lansdowne Ave.

The coffee house will serve fresh roasted coffee, specialty teas and other seasonal beverages, along with house-made pastries and food.

It’s a sibling brand to Nilaa Coffee, a Philadelphia roastery.

Camellia Coffee uses carefully sourced single-origin specialty coffees from Southeast Asia and other underrepresented regions. Another of their labels, Quartz Coffee, sources coffee from around the world.

“We always consider sustainability, from the producers we source from to our day-to-day operations at the roastery and the café, says Nilaa Coffee owner Matt Saperstone.

They have never served a straw, they compost as many of their grinds as they can and they use compostable and degradable materials—including encouraging customers to bring reusable cups.

The café has a hand-made countertop bar and a re-purposed old sitting counter from an old café across the street.

A glass pastry case has been built into the bar “so it’s one of the first things customers see when they walk in,” Saperstone says.
