C&N Bank’s ‘C and N’ Could Just as Well Stand for ‘Compassionate’ and ‘Nurturing’

C&N Bank's latest community outreach included support to address childhood hunger.

C&N Bank — whose founding name was “Citizens & Northern” Bank — showed plenty of “compassion” and “nourishing” in a recent philanthropic effort for local underprivileged kids and emergency services personnel. The Giving Back, Giving Together effort was a two-year initiative that targeted a specific need with each edition.

Children’s Needs

The 2021 program raised nearly $90,000 to connect needy youngsters with food, clothing, and shelter.

The child-centric donations included more than 4,500 necessity items and 32 hours’ donated volunteer time at youth- and child-centric organizations.

C&N felt particularly compelled to act, given the adverse effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic effects. School closings and the high cost of childcare forced many parents from their careers, ravaging household budgets.

As a result, food insecurity concerns rose among children, absent school-access to free or reduced-cost meals.

In an effort that started last June, C&N teams partnered with 23 local children and youth programs to collect monetary donations. The resulting $85,000 was augmented by the bank’s charity golf classic and solicitation among area businesses:

  • D.E. Errick, Inc.
  • D.F.&P. LLC
  • EADEH Enterprises
  • Fitzpatrick & Lambert

Emergency Services

In June 2022, C&N team members turned their focus to support local emergency services.

While many of these organizations get state and local funding, it usually isn’t enough to cover the extensive training needed along with the expensive equipment. These shortfalls cause many of these fire and ambulance companies to shut down and puts a greater burden on the ones struggling to stay afloat.

This year, C&N employees voted to make Giving Back, Giving Together cause for the next 12 months, taking on fundraising for our local emergency services. Its goal is $100,000 to support 34 local volunteer emergency, fire, and ambulance services.

The public is invited to join C&N in its mission of keeping regional emergency services strong through the support of local organizations:

  • Donate online
  • Connect with the bank during quarterly event weeks
  • Like/share C&N’s #GivingBackGivingTogether Facebook posts. The bank donates $1 to a library for every like and share
  • Spread the word

Every dollar donated remains in the local community, keeping these vital services available.
