For the second year in a row, Wilmington University has been named one of America’s most-transfer-friendly colleges by the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK).

One of just 171 colleges on Phi Theta Kappa’s 2022 Transfer Honor Roll, WilmU was recognized for its dynamic pathways that support transfer students through its open admissions policy, affordable tuition, accessible recruiters, and active student life.

“This recognition from the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society means a great deal to our administration, faculty, staff, and most important, our students,” said Wilmington University President Dr. LaVerne Harmon. “We are committed to offering transfer students academic options that are convenient, attainable, and affordable, since our tuition rates are the same for both in-state and out-of-state students. We also understand that transferring can sometimes be challenging, so we dedicate ourselves to making the process seamless and welcoming.”

WilmU enrolls five times more transfer students than any other college in the region. Approximately 75 percent of students entering its undergraduate programs have transferred credits from other schools over the past five years. And 85 percent of full-time students who transfer 60 or more credits to WilmU graduate with a bachelor’s degree.

“This award is so important because it is based on what students tell us they need from their transfer experience,” said Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, president and CEO of Phi Theta Kappa. “We are honored to recognize the colleges and universities working exceptionally hard to create stronger pathways to bachelor’s-degree completion for all students.”

WilmU offers a wide range of online, hybrid, and in-person degree and certificate programs, locations throughout Delaware and southern New Jersey, and classes that begin every eight weeks. Students may transfer up to 90 credit hours from accredited schools, and WilmU offers additional credit through prior learning assessments, certificate programs, military coursework, and occupational training certifications. Community college graduates can apply their entire associate degree toward a personalized course track that leads to bachelor’s degrees.

“As an online transfer student, it was very important for me to continue being part of a community that gives back to others,” said Khalidah Abdul-Muqtadir, a Computer Science major and PTK alumna. “Thanks to the importance that PTK and WilmU place on scholarships, I’m able to graduate without any debt and with many great memories of giving back to the community.”

WilmU’s Phi Theta Kappa graduates can join the society’s first and only Delaware alumni chapter.

“Students who were involved in Phi Theta Kappa at their first schools want to remain involved when they come to WilmU,” said Alice Miller, director of Student Life at WilmU. “The chapter helps them build strong networks outside the university by providing community engagement opportunities and supporting local and national job searches.”

Said Abdul-Muqtadir: “I did not hesitate to join WilmU’s PTK Alumni Association because I want to continue building my connections with many kind and selfless fellow alumni. It’s important to be a part of a community that constantly gives back to others.”
