Philadelphia-area colleges will host a variety of commencement speakers this May, writes Susan Snyder for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Here’s who you can expect to see at colleges and universities here in Delaware County.

On May 7, Cheyney University welcomes the Hon. Cynthia Baldwin, one of the first African American women to serve on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and former general counsel to Pennsylvania State University.

On May 13, Jay Wright will be Villanova University’s commencement speaker after his much-publicized retirement announcement as head coach for the Wildcats.

On May 14:

Haverford College hosts civil rights advocate Karen Korematsu, founder and executive director of the Fred T. Korematsu Institute.

The institute was named for her late father, who fought all the way to the Supreme Court after he was arrested for refusing to go to the government’s incarceration camp for Japanese Americans in 1942.

Neumann University welcomes John McConnell, founder and president emeritus of Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School, and Sister Marguerite O’Beirne, former vice president for mission and ministry at the university.

On May 22, Swarthmore College hosts Immigration law scholar T. Alexander Aleinikoff, ‘74; Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Marshall Curry, ‘92; Hawaii Lt. Gov. Josh Green, ‘92; and ballet dancer Virginia Johnson.
