How About Some Wawa Loaded Fries and Pizza to Go With That Wawa Beer?
Happy with Wawa’s ever-expanding menu? Well, don’t look now, but there’s more coming, writes Laura Smythe for Philadelphia Business Journal.
Customers will see “a continued drumbeat of innovation around dinner” as well as an amplified handcrafted, specialty beverage category, says Wawa CEO Chris Gheysens.
They’ve been trying out a “more traditionally done” 16-inch cheese or pepperoni pizza at two stores. Thanks to a strong performance, pizza in a few varieties will be available at another 25 test stores later this year.
“What I like to tell people is it’s going to be a lot better than you would think Wawa pizza would be,” Gheysens said.
A Chik-fil-A-quality fried chicken sandwich is hitting the stores now.
Last month, chalupas were added to stores that serve salads. Tacos with grilled chicken and barbacoa beef will be out this week.
Yet to come? Loaded fries, kicking off April 25. Options include buffalo chicken, cheesesteak and bacon and cheese.
On the beverage side, Wawa is looking to add more comfort and health-oriented smoothies, cold-brewed green and black iced teas and “Popping Bubbles,” boba tea in five varieties. More drinks will be announced in a secret menu later this month.
