Wawa is celebrating the 58th anniversary of opening its first store opening April 16, 1964 in Folsom with several Wawa Day events and actions, starting with free coffee on April 14.

On Thursday, customers can get a free coffee, any size, at any Wawa store.

April 14 also marks the anniversary of the 2014 launch of The Wawa Foundation, a nonprofit focusing on the company’s charitable giving.

To celebrate, Wawa is hosting a special event at its Boothwyn location, 2608 Chichester Avenue, with some activities branching out to other Wawa stores.

The Chichester High School Band will be on hand to warm up the crowd starting at 8 a.m.

Beginning at 9 a.m. in Boothwyn, Wawa leadership, customers, associates, local officials and local heroes will toast the community.

Highlights of Wawa Day on April 14 include:

  • a Ceremonial Coffee Pour to kick off free coffee for everyone with an anticipated distribution of 2 million cups of coffee chain-wide.
  • Associates from all 960 stores will honor one customer as their store’s official “Day Brightener” and present them with a gift box of items to acknowledge the positivity they spread throughout their communities.
  • Wawa will donate a total of $1 million in gift cards to The Wawa Foundation’s National and Community Partners, including American Red Cross, Check-Out Hunger, Children’s Miracle Network, JDRF, LLS, Special Olympics, USO and Meals on Wheels, to help them continue delivering much-needed services to their communities.

Each organization will receive approximately $100,000 in gift cards in support of their fuel/food needs and family assistance programs.

Representatives from the organizations receiving gift cards will attend Wawa Day store events for formal presentations of funds and to share how the gift cards will positively support the local community.

  • Wawa will unveil the limited-time “Day Brightener” Popping Bubbles Passionfruit Lemonade beverage. This unique creation was developed by Wawa mixologists and includes Wawa’s signature lemonade with a fizzy passionfruit twist.
