Haverford Township businesses received some window flowers this past weekend thanks to a community project, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.

The Discover Haverford Mayflower Project was set in motion by volunteers who brightened up windows and painted flower designs.

Jeanne Angell, executive director of Discover Haverford, said board member Gina Ranieri, owner of Plant Roots, came up with the idea and organized the volunteers.  Twenty-five businesses agreed to the work.

Outside Sam’s Boardwalk style Pizza and McGillicuddy’s Restaurant Sunday, Haverford Middle School students from the school art club created works of art, supervised by art teacher Janiene Kwoczak.

 “We were kind of thinking of some flowers we like and picked aster flowers, because that’s Aster’s name,” said classmate Audrey Leitao referring to fellow classmate and artist Aster Marino.

“Good work,” said Manager Bob Applegate as he brought out pizzas.

In school, the art club can be found designing sets, painting banners and large scale canvases.

“Anybody who likes to make a mess and get in touch with their own creativity is totally welcome,” Kwoczak said.

The artwork is expected to remain up through June.
