New York Times: COVID Cases Dropping in Delco, From ‘Very High’ to ‘High’

The number of COVID-19 cases in Delaware County has continued to fall, recently transitioning from a very high to a high level, according to The New York Times.

Last week, there was an average of 27 new daily cases reported in the county, which is a 31 percent decrease compared to the two weeks prior. Since the start of the pandemic, at least 1 in 6 residents have been infected by COVID-19, totaling 109,307 reported cases.

The test positivity rate in Delaware County is relatively low, suggesting that testing capacity is adequate for evaluating COVID-19 spread in the area.

January 2022 remains the month with the highest average cases in Delaware County.

The number of people that were hospitalized with COVID-19 has decreased in the last two weeks by 39 percent. Deaths have remained at about the same levels, with an average of two daily fatalities over that period.

Meanwhile, as of March 17, the number of fully vaccinated people in the county is at 74 percent. This includes 78 percent of fully vaccinated residents aged 5 and up and 95 percent of fully vaccinated people aged 65 and up.
