Delaware County stubbornly remains in the “very high” category for COVID-19 cases, despite a continuing drop in new cases, according to the New York Times.

Last week, there was an average of 63 new daily cases reported in the county, which is a 72 percent decrease compared to the two weeks prior.

Since the start of the pandemic, at least 1 in 6 residents have been infected by COVID-19, totaling 108,643 reported cases.

January 2022 is the month with the highest average cases in Delaware County, which remains at high risk for unvaccinated people.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 has decreased in the last two weeks by 51 percent. Deaths have also decreased, with 46 new fatalities over the same period.

Meanwhile, as of Feb. 24, the number of fully vaccinated people in the county is at 73 percent. This includes 77 percent of fully vaccinated residents aged 5 and up and 95 percent of fully vaccinated people aged 65 and up.

Individuals are fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving either the second dose of a two-dose vaccine series or one dose of a single-dose vaccine. The CDC also recommends a booster shot.
