Prospect Medical Holdings Inc., the for-profit owner of Crozer Health, cut administrative staff and senior positions when it replaced Crozer’s CEO, writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

That includes Crozer’s chief medical officer, Gary Zimmer, according to industry sources and four former employees who lost their jobs at the healthcare system.

Last week, Crozer announced that its chief executive, Peter Adamo, was leaving. He is being replaced by Prospect employee Kevin Spiegel.

But other positions were also cut. One of the four laid-off employees estimated the number at 300.

The Crozer system includes Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, Springfield Hospital in Springfield, and Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park.

Crozer spokesperson Lori Bookbinder has not responded to requests for comment.

The Inquirer reported there has been talk in Philadelphia-area health care circles that Prospect is close to a deal to sell the Crozer system. It initially reported a possible sale of Crozer Health back in October, quoting “four industry sources”.

Prospect Medical denied the Inquirer reports from October,  stating it was conducting a “standard strategic review to explore new opportunities and consider developing partnerships with other organizations” for its hospitals.
