The Pennsylvania Institute of Technology in Media is a private non-profit college that delivers an education to its students for career development, career advancement, and college transfer opportunities.

But it’s ready to do a lot more to help students on their journey.

When you become a student at P.I.T., you won’t be going through the curriculum alone.

A Student Success Coach monitors your progress and makes sure you are successful in your studies.

The coach stays in touch with you several times during the term, identifying and correcting impediments that might interfere with a student’s success.

Advisors are also available to help find any financial aid available to help with college expenses.

Students starting out at PIT receive an orientation, and meet with an admissions representative before being introduced to their coach.

A team made up of an Admissions Representative, a Financial Aid Advisor and a Student Success Coach then coordinate to create a Student Success Team for each student.

Early Warning System

An early warning system initiated by instructors alerts the Student Success Coach if there are any concerns involving a student.

If a student shows any changes in behavior, participates less, or doesn’t perform assignments as frequently, the coach will reach out to see if there are academic or non-academic issues, including personal issues, that prevent the student from achieving success.

Similarly, students who miss more than five days of class are contacted to see if there are issues preventing attendance and to figure out solutions to get them back into the classroom.

Midterm Grades and GPA Review

Coaches review Midterm grades and grade point averages. Students who are below a 2.0 GPA are contacted to discuss what problems they may be encountering.  The coach will provide techniques and supports to improve the student’s success for the second half of the term, including tutoring and time management techniques.

TRIO- Student Support Services Program

The College also runs a TRIO-Student Support Services program to assist qualifying first-generation, low-income students with an academic need.

Not all students qualify for this federal grant program, with P.I.T. funded to serve 175 students.

These qualifying students may receive educational workshops, supplemental instruction mentoring, and alumni mentoring.

Career Placement Assistance and Transfer Assistance

P.I.T. has a Career and Transfer Coach working with students to help prepare them for life after graduation.

P.I.T. partners with Handshake, a web-based service for students looking for full–time, part-time or internship work after graduation

The Career and Transfer Coach helps students build online profiles, assist in resume and cover letter writing, job searching, connecting with employers, navigating interviews, attending job fairs and more.

The CTC also hosts Career and Transfer Events throughout the academic year.

Tutoring

P.I.T.  has a Tutoring Program open to all students.   The goal of the tutoring program is to make sure the student receives a C or higher in the courses where they are receiving the tutoring.

In 2020, tutored students had an 85% proficiency in the subject being tutored.

There is also an online mentoring plan that makes sure students learning virtually stay connected and engaged.

Staff Availability

Staff is available to students via Zoom, texting, email, and phone.

When you decide to pursue an education at P.I.T. you’re going to get all the support available to help you succeed and achieve your educational and career goals.
