On Nov. 7, Neumann University planted a tree on campus to honor former Aston Township Commissioner Carol Graham, who died on Jan.12, 2021. The university is in Aston’s Second Ward, which Graham represented for 11 years.

A crowd of more than 50 friends and family gathered on the Reflection Path, a walkway between the Child Development Center and the Rocco Abessinio Building, to share memories of the Aston commissioner around a freshly planted red maple, her favorite tree.

Graham’s husband, James Graham, spoke about his late wife’s devotion to residents of the Second Ward as did her daughter, Kit Spayd, and Dr. Chris Domes, Neumann’s president.

Graham was remembered by many others who spoke at the ceremony as a tireless public servant who worked on behalf of her constituents.

Sr. Linda DeCero of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia, the university’s founding congregation, read a prayer to the crowd during the dedication.
