Trying to navigate the complexities of COVID-19 led Neumann University to create a Campus Reopening Team in the spring of 2021 to help faculty and students live and learn at the school during a pandemic, writes Lily Henderson for Main Line Today.

The 17-member team of experts was chosen by Neumann president Chris Domes.

The team made sure contact tracing was in place and that symptomatic students were OK.

“They were calling us every single day,” says Neumann student Jake Loburak, a senior majoring in communications and digital media.

The vigilance paid off, giving opportunities for early intervention, said team member Judith Neubauer, an assistant professor at the school and director of its graduate nursing program.

Classes continued, with 50 percent in-person and 50 percent on line.

Domes contacted alumni for safe student internship opportunities.

“We had some ways of creating opportunities that we wouldn’t have normally had,” Domes says.

The goal is to have all students and faculty vaccinated this fall with a full campus reopening.

Some COVID-era changes are here to stay, like offering optional SATs and ACTs, and a new advisory boardto help students make business connections.
