Several local universities are starting to enact vaccination policies for students and staff, before they can be on campus in the fall, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.

Villanova, Widener, Neumann, Swarthmore, Haverford, St. Joseph’s, the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel, Cabrini and Temple are requiring staff and students to be vaccinated for the fall semester.

Delaware County Community College also will require proof of vaccination for students, faculty, staff and visitors, but it won’t go into effect until January 2022.

“We were waiting for full FDA approval, now that there has been FDA approval we want to give people time to get vaccinated,“ said Anthony Twyman, director of Government and Public Relations. ”Our students really have made it clear that they want to come back to in-person classes. We have to balance safety with our students’ desire to have back in-person instruction.”

In the fall, classes will be conducted in person, online and through hybrid options. Anyone on campus will be required to wear a mask indoors, whether or not they are vaccinated., and adhere to three feet social distancing.

The school was virtual-only March 2020 through May 2021. It resumed full operations on its campuses June 1.
