HBO’s detective drama “Mare of Easttown”, with 16 Emmy nominations at the Emmy Awards Sept. 19, is a television standout and got the attention of Amazon Studios, writes Michael Tanenbaum for phillyvoice.com.

It’s a nice feather in HBO’s cap, and others will likely try to duplicate its successful formula of star power, storytelling and suspense.

Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke acknowledge in a recent interview with Deadline that Amazon’s streaming platform made a try for “Mare.”

“We tried hard to get ‘Mare of Easttown‘ and we lost it in negotiation,” Salke said. “I do think about the process and I did look back at what our process was going through that because I really, really loved the show and I’m such a fan of Kate’s and I would have been proud to have it on the service.”

Amazon Studios has produced its own popular original series, from “Goliath” to “The Underground Railroad,” to “Upload,” which has been renewed for a second season.

There’s been buzz about a possible second season of “Mare of Easttown” but its creator, Brad Ingelsby, said it would be challenging to continue the series and match the emotional highs of its first seven episodes.
