In Havertown: Kids, Community Groups Join Up for the Common Good

By

The Impact Center in Haverford is teaching kids the importance of giving back to their community, and getting them involved in helping out, reports the 6abc digital staff and Todd Haas for 6abc.com.

Located on the 600 block of Haverford Road, the Center bridges the gap between youth and the social organizations that are doing humanitarian work.

“We want our kids to understand the different sides of the road,” said Morgan Moore, an educator at the Impact Center. “And so we have an introductory educational course that sort of is before we do service and after we do service we’ll come back and we’ll debrief with them.”

Founder Maria Stroup describes the Impact Center as a collaborator and a linker.

It takes a group of young people and asks them what they care about, and what they’d like to change in their community and the world.

The youth are then connected with groups working on those concerns.

The Impact Center currently works with 21 public and private area schools and with faith-based organizations. The young people learn about food and housing insecurity, about the criminal justice system, immigration, and “topics that affect humanity in deep ways,” Stroup says.
