Merion Golf Club in Ardmore Gets 2-Time Shot at US Open

The USGA has selected the Merion Golf Club in Ardmore for the 2030 and 2050 US Open, writes Lisa Dukart for Philadelphia Business Journal.

 “We’re making history and kicking off a new era for our national championships in Pennsylvania, and we couldn’t be more excited for what lies ahead,” said John Bodenhamer, USGA senior managing director of championships.

 Merion Golf Club, in the Ardmore section of Haverford Township, has hosted 18 championships, the most of any site.

It hosted the US Open in 2013 and before that, in 1981. It first hosted the U.S. Open n 1971.

Over the years it has produced “incredible moments in golf history,” said Buddy Marucci, championship chair for Merion Golf Club.

The USGA plans to enlist Merion for other future tournaments as well.

 “We are thrilled to celebrate those moments by announcing four more Open championships, and we look forward to bringing the best players in the world to compete on Hugh Wilson’s timeless masterpiece,”  Marucci said.

Merion Golf Club has the reputation of having one of the top courses in the nation. It ranked No. 6 on a Golf Digest list of America’s 100 greatest golf courses this year.
