Ridley High senior Brianna Foster was having a very good year until a torn hamstring kept her out of the PIAA Class 3A Track and Field Championship, writes Terry Toohey for papreplive.com.
Foster suffered a right hamstring injury when she made her second long jump attempt at the District 1 girls track and field championship.
Her initial jump of 17 feet 11 inches got her third place and automatic placement in the state meet. Now the injury has sidelined all that.
“I was disappointed because I was ranked high in the state (in the long jump). I knew I could have placed in the top three or even won it so I was really disappointed.”
This is the second time an injury knocked her out of state competition. She suffered a torn quadriceps in her sophomore year.
“It seems like it happens every time at districts, I get hurt,” Foster said. “I was thinking, ‘Maybe it’s not meant to be.’ I always get hurt.”
Foster won the 100-meter dash title at the Delco Championships for the third time.
Foster was also the only athlete to win both the 100 and long jump at the Delcos since 2001.
