There were a variety of reasons why 127 people showed up Saturday at Delaware County’s vaccination clinic in Yeadon. Most weren’t about fears of the Delta variant, writes Allison Steele for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Many saw looming work, school and vacation deadlines. Others were urged by their families or just wanted a normal life again.

Some did it to pursue their careers

Lauren Pierre’s needed a vaccine if she wants to work in an emergency room. .

“As I pursue a career in medicine, I have to get it,” said Pierre, 25, of North Philadelphia. “Especially if I’m going to be pushing it on people.”

Nathan Krauss, 12, said most of his friends have gotten it. He just wants to get back to normal, playing sports, seeing people.

Betty Devinney, 86, of Morton,  had a son hospitalized for almost two weeks in December, but she still hesitated.

“My kids kept bugging me, and bugging me, and bugging me,” she said. “I just said, ‘Fine, I’ll get it.’ ”

Edward Karen was at the vaccination clinic because his landscaping company had an employee vaccination day after colleagues got sick. Almost all attended.
