Wawa’s Next Thing, a Stadium Store in Philly That Sells Beer

A Wawa stadium store in Philadelphia. The Delaware County franchise is closing two more stores in Northeast Philadelphia.

Never one to rest on its laurels, Wawa has moved on from its spotlight moment on Mare of Easttown to announce its first-ever stadium store within Philadelphia’s city limits that will sell beer, writes Stephanie Farr for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The store, at 2600 Penrose Avenue, is less than two miles from the South Philly sports complex.

A walk-in beer cooler known as the “Beer Cave” will be inside the store.

It is the sixth Wawa in Pennsylvania to sell beer, joining locations in Chadds Ford, Middletown, Emmaus Blakeslee and Horsham.

Opening ceremonies are Thursday, at which time Wawa will announce its support for Philadelphia’s bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 2026.

The opening is the same day as a Wawa vs. Sheetz debate between Wawa lover U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle and Sheetz fanatic Lt. Gov. John Fetterman.

“Over the years, Sheetz and Wawa have worked together on initiatives and charitable endeavors to benefit our communities,” said Wawa spokesperson Lori Bruce. ”Because of this mutual respect, we have decided not to take an active role in this event — but certainly understand that our customers and fans have a great deal of passion for both companies.”
