Delaware County got a rare peek of itself in Hollywood’s mirror, with HBO’s “Mare of Easttown,” writes Max Marin for billypenn.com.

For maybe the first time ever, it started a national conversation about Delco and the result has been generally positive.

Top publications hopped on board the “Mare” train. So did columnists.

Kate Winslet earned praise and criticism for her efforts to dominate the Delco accent.

Saturday Night Live’s “Mare” parody made sure the hometown accent was talked about and analyzed nationwide.

Show creator Brad Ingelsby wanted to use the accent as a way to highlight his native region, but admitted to Slate that some actors “learned it more than others.”

“Mare” was also a nuanced place that had a life of its own.

That reflects on Ingelsby’s decision to feature in a fictional setting the area where he grew up and the people that live there.

Easttown showed that in great detail, especially when it came to Delco’s relationship with food. Local fans shared their own meals of Wawa hoagies and Rolling Rock on social media.

Then there’s the local bonus of seeing people and places you know on the show.
