Delaware County CSAs Among the Best for Fresh Food in the Area

By

The Chester County Food Bank manages gardens at Springton Manor Farm in Glenmoore.

Joining CSAs is the best way to ensure you receive a steady supply of prime summer produce from local farms, writes Jenn Ladd for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Luckily, you can find two of the best CSAs in the region right here in Delaware County.

Urban Roots Farm in Newtown Square offers an ambitious CSA program that has add-on subscriptions for Ursa Bakery bread, Birchrun Hills Farm, and Valley Milkhouse cheese, as well as Mycopolitan Mushrooms, among many more.

The base subscription includes 10-plus pounds of produce with each of the 25 weekly shares. The cost of a share is $40 a week.

Urban Roots also donates a year of vegetables to families in need for every ten new subscribers.

Meanwhile, the six-acre Red Hill Farm in Aston is owned by the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia. Members get regular access to the pick-your-own garden and a children’s garden with plenty of activities.

The 24-week season runs from June to November and costs $775.
