COVID-19 Deaths at 8 for Wednesday, 2 in New Towns. New Cases Stay Below 100

Testing for COVID-19 in a Pennsylvania lab

Eight new COVID-19-related deaths were reported for Wednesday, May 5, according to the Chester County Health Department.

Chester Heights and Morton both had deaths reported for the first time.

The health department is reporting a total of 1,398 COVID-19-related deaths in Delaware County.

Of those, 830 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes.

1 fatality was reported in Yeadon, 1 in Ridley, 1 in Springfield, 1 in Upper Chichester, 1 in Aston, 1 in Chester Township, 1 in Chester Heights and 1 in Morton.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 48 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

New cases

There were 74 new cases reported Wednesday, May 5.  Total cases are 47,181.

Prospect Park continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 735, affecting 11.32 percent of its 6,492 population.

Upper Darby has the most total cases, with 6,996 cases reported, or 8.43 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

Negative tests

The county has had 236,426 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 88.64 percent recovery rate.

  • 30 to 39: 6,970 cases
