Wall Street Journal: Pandemic Barometer–As Goes Disneyland, So Goes America

By

Large crowds like this pre-pandemic crowd may be seen again as places like Disneyland plan reopenings.

Pre-pandemic life, from conventions to sporting events to Disneyland, is coming back with vaccination rates increasing. These are signs that things are slowly returning to normal, writes Francesca Fontana for The Wall Street Journal.

Among them is the monster turnout for Godzilla vs. Kong opening. The film recorded the best domestic box-office opening since the start of the pandemic, taking in $48.5 million over five days. This was despite still active capacity limitations.

Major League Baseball is also welcoming fans to stadiums once again, albeit at limited capacity.

Meanwhile, the first major convention – The World of Concrete – will return to Las Vegas in June.

Disneyland is also slated to reopen on April 30 with some changes, including limiting the capacity to a maximum of 35 percent.

Meanwhile, Airlines will start filling middle seats on May 1 after blocking them for more than a year.

Hotel rooms are once again filling up, live music events are reemerging with concerts scheduled for summer and fall, and indoor dining is being slowly increased.

And after a lengthy delay, the long-awaited reunion of the cast of Friends is about to start filming.
