It’s Time for Delaware Countians to Make Their Gardens Grow

By

It’s turning green, yellow, purple and pink again in the gardens, reports Katherine Scott for 6abc.com.

Many have started to prep the gardens as spring takes root.

“When the sun is out, people are definitely out. They definitely have spring fever,” said co-owner Michael Taddeo of Taddeo’s Greenhouses in Havertown.

There have been plenty of springs at the third-generation greenhouse. The business was started by Taddeo’s grandfather in 1954.

This year, it’s a little different.

“With everybody being home, people have discovered gardening again,” Taddeo said.

There’s a new mix of gardeners  sprinkled among the veterans.

Taddeo’s is ready for advice, from growing in sun or shade, annuals or perennials.

John Blahnik of Ardmore has been a repeat customer in recent weeks.

Blahnik’s planting sun sugar tomatoes and zucchini in a community garden.

Now’s the time to be cleaning up gardens from the winter, getting in a good weeding as you enjoy the first burst of color.

It’s a good time to plant cucumber seeds. You can also transplant tomatoes, peppers and eggplants once there’s no frost in the forecast.

” Everybody is now more involved, and they’re taking care of their plants, and they’re more interested in what’s involved to make a good plant grow,” he said.
