There Were 375 New Cases of COVID-19 Between Friday and Monday in Delaware County

One new COVID-19 related death was added to the total death toll for Delaware County on Monday, March 8, but no additional deaths were listed in the municipal breakdown from Friday, March 5,

The Chester County Health Department is reporting a total of 1,294 fatalities.

Of those, 801 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes, according to the latest statistics from the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 46 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

There were 375 new COVID-19 cases in Delaware County reported between Friday, March 5 and Monday, March 8. Total cases are now 38,924.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 1,103, or 9.59 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 5,840 cases reported, or 7.04 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 849 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 208,609 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 90.81 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Monday, March 8, are:

  • Under 10: 1,550 cases
  • 10 to 19: 4.088 cases
  • 20 to 29: 6,531 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 5,687 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 5,294 cases
  • 50 to 59: 6,068 cases
  • 60 to 69: 4,751 cases
  • 70 to 79: 2,458 cases
  • 80 and over: 2,493 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, March 8, that there were 5,965 new cases of COVID-19 statewide between Friday, March 5 and Monday, March 8.  Total cases now number 950,161.

There were 94 additional COVID-19 deaths reported between Friday, March 5 and Monday, March 8, for a new total of 24,356.
