Kirsten Hess, a bookstore owner, was one of four small business owners meeting with Joe Biden in Yeadon Borough on June 17 at Carlette’s Hideaway, a soul food restaurant.

On March 11, the president mentioned her in his prime time address, writes Julia Terruso for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Here’s a link to the story about that meeting which ran in DELCO.Today.

“Last summer, I was in Philadelphia and I met a small-business owner, a woman,” Biden said. “I asked her, I said, ‘What do you need most?’ Never forget what she said to me. She said, looking me right in the eye and she said, ‘I just want the truth. The truth. Just tell me the truth.’ ”

Also at that meeting was Carlette and Kenny Brooks, owners of the Hideaway; and Scott Robinson, owner of Occasionally Yours, a Swarthmore catering business.

Hess said she didn’t see the prime-time address, but got about 20 texts messages advising her to turn on the TV.

“He was directly across the table and he said specifically, ‘What are you looking for from your government?’ ” Hess, 50, recalled. “And I believe I said, ‘The truth. I want clear consistent language so that business owners and others can make smart decisions.’ ”
