A new tenant at The Promenade at Granite Run wants to teach children how to swim, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.

Goldfish Swim School of Media has opened next to Boscov’s department store.

Greg and Alexandra DeRise of Devon, and business partner Anthony Pistilli of Media opened a 60,000-gallon 75-foot by 25-foot heated indoor pool to offer swim lessons. The facility is decorated in a Caribbean theme.

Lessons are offered to children up to age 12.

The goal is to get children feeling safe in and around water using guided play to teach swimming skills.

“We start at 4 months of age. At that age, they are used to being in the womb and they are used to being in that environment,” said Greg DeRise. “They are very comfortable and there is not the fear of the water, so getting started that early is great.”

Instructors are lifeguard and first aid certified. There’s a staff of two managers and 30 instructors.

Pandemic health guidelines are in place, with six-foot spacing, limited occupancy, and continual cleaning.

This is their second Goldfish Swim School franchise. They opened in Malvern about 2-1/2 years ago.
