Black women got Adam McNeil of Lansdowne through his 30 plus years.

His mom, aunts, his grandmother, cousins.

“If it wasn’t for them, I would have seen Hell a long time ago.”

Adam McNeil is founder of SistaTalkPHL, a grassroots project supporting Black Philly moms, writes Stephanie Farr for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The idea came when he was alone at a hospital after a 2018 car accident and realized how vital those women had been in his life.

He’s been busy. In six months, the 34-year-old has given away 25,000 diapers, two refrigerators and two sets of washers and dryers.

He’s rented out laundromats for “community wash days,” letting moms do laundry for free.

He’s hosted vendors and nonprofits on-site to provide helpful resources.

And it’s all just him, his unemployment checks and donations.

McNeil was born in West Philly but raised in Upper Darby and West Chester.

He watched his mother struggle as a single parent, walking more than a half hour each way to clean houses.

He realized it was time to give back.

“I have taken so much in my life,” he said. “Now, I just want to give.” Read more about Adam McNeil at The Philadelphia Inquirer.
