Mobile COVID Test Lab Designed for Military Tried Out on Neumann Students
A laboratory research company will be trying out its COVID-19 mobile testing lab on Neumann University students returning to campus for the spring semester, writes John George of Philadelphia Business Journal.
FlowMetric Life Sciences of Doylestown developed one of the country’s first mobile Covid-19 antibody testing labs. It can screen mass populations for infections. In this case, it will handle about 30 students an hour, with results available within the hour.
Up to 520 students will be tested Friday.
The testing lab had been developed for military operations.
“This is a concept we had back in 2015,” said founder and CEO Renold J. Capocasale, who’s also on the Neumann University board. “The idea was to bring rapid testing into the field and getting diagnostics to people where they are.”
The lab was built for pandemics but prior to COVID, there was no investment momentum for it so the lab was put on hold, Capocasale said.
It has since been resurrected.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health approved its use for COVID-19 testing in October.
FlowMetric has also developed the ability to measure the effectiveness of Covid-19 vaccines.
