8 More COVID-related Deaths Reported Since Friday in Delaware County, Total Cases Now at 32,747

The Chester County Health Department is reporting a total of 32,747 positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County as of Tuesday, Jan. 19.

This number is lower than the Pennsylvania Department of Health figure released yesterday, but is considered the more accurate number by local health officials.

Local health department figures were unavailable through the weekend and Monday.

Eight additional COVID-19 deaths have been reported since Friday, for a new total of 1,061.

Fatalities were reported from Marple, Yeadon, Chester, Concord, Springfield, Bethel, Aston and East Lansdowne.

Of total deaths reported, 711 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 46 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 980, or 8.5 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 4,975 cases reported, or 5.99 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 725 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 187,971 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 80.72 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Tuesday, Jan.19 are:

  • Under 10: 1,176 cases
  • 10 to 19: 3,212 cases
  • 20 to 29: 5,604 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 4,841 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 4,456 cases
  • 50 to 59: 5,127 cases
  • 60 to 69: 4,040 cases
  • 70 to 79: 2,078 cases
  • 80 and over: 2,211 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Jan.19 that there were 5,341 additional cases of COVID-19 reported, for a new total of 777,186.

 There were 77 additional deaths for a new total of 19,467.
