6 More Added to Delaware County’s COVID-19 Death Toll for Jan. 7, Total Fatalities Now at 1,022

Delaware County has seen a higher than usual death toll from COVID-19 in the past two days, with 16 deaths reported Jan. 6 and another six added for Jan. 7, for a total now of 1,022, according to daily figures being reported by the Chester County Health Department.

The number of reported COVID positive cases increased by 245 between the 29,849 total cases reported Jan. 6 and the 30,094 total cases reported Jan. 7.

One person died from Middletown, one from Yeadon, one from Nether Providence, one from Media, one from Folcroft and one from Aldan.

Of those, 693 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes, according to the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 43 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 952, or 8.29 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 4,599 cases reported, or 5.54 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 657 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 180,654 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 77.45 percent recovery rate.

  • Under 10: 1,031 cases
  • 10 to 19: 2,901 cases
  • 20 to 29: 5,176 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 4,432 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 4,114 cases
  • 50 to 59: 4,755 cases
  • 60 to 69: 3,698 cases
  • 70 to 79: 1,913 cases
  • 80 and over: 2,071 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Jan.7 that there were 9,698 additional cases of COVID-19 reported statewide, with total cases at 693,087.

There were 265 deaths reported, for a total of 17,179.
