Positive Cases of COVID Now at 27,000 in Delaware County

COVID-19 statistics were unavailable for Delaware County and its municipalities over the weekend and were last reported Thursday, Dec. 24, by the Chester County Health Department.

A total of 26,975 positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the county since statistics were first provided mid-March 2020 through Dec. 24.

The health department also reported 954 deaths as of Dec. 24.

Of those, 671 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes, according to the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 43 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 909, or 7.9 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 4,209 cases reported, or 5.07 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 596 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 173,909 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 71.55 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Thursday, Dec. 24 are:

  • Under 10: 885 cases
  • 10 to 19: 2,612 cases
  • 20 to 29: 4,735 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 3,970 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 3,711cases
  • 50 to 59: 4,226cases
  • 60 to 69: 3,269 cases
  • 70 to 79: 1,691 cases
  • 80 and over: 1,874 cases

As of Sunday, Dec. 27, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 610,025 cases of COVID-19 in the state of Pennsylvania.

There were 15,010 COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, as of Sunday, Dec. 27.
