Havertown Girl Prays to Bonner’s Father Atkinson for a Miracle as She Continues Brain Cancer Fight

By

Lily Walker, 16, is not fighting her battle with brain cancer alone.

She’s praying to God and  Bonner High teacher and paraplegic, Father Bill Atkinson, for a miracle, reports Ashley Johnson for 6abc.com.

Father Atkinson, a friend of Lily’s grandfather’s, passed away in 2006.

“He accepted his cross so faithfully. I want to do the same thing,” Lily said.

She’s hoping her prayers will lead to Father Atkinson being canonized as a saint. A miracle is one of the requirements in the canonization process.

“That’s my purpose through this fight is to show that prayer does work,” she said.

She has prayed for two years, through multiple surgeries, chemotherapy and proton therapy.

A global movement is behind her efforts, “A Lily for the World”.

Last March, the Havertown community lit their houses and businesses up in green to show their support for Lily. Here’s a video at abc30.com highlighting that campaign.

“Unfortunately, the tumor is in a location of her brain that makes it inoperable so what we need is for the tumor to be killed off by making it go dormant, or just by having it miraculously disappear,” said Lily’s mother, Megan Walker.

Lily is praying to be cured by next summer.

“I’ve been told I’m an inspiration a couple of times. It makes me feel really good,” Lily said.
