Delaware County Kicks Off December With Over 20,000 COVID-19 Positive Cases

Delaware County now has a total of 20,102 positive COVID-19 cases reported as of Tuesday, Dec. 1.

There were also two additional COVID-19-related deaths reported, both from Middletown. Total deaths now number 852, according to the Chester County Health Department. 20,102

Of those, 638 were in long term care facilities and personal care homes, according to data from the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 40 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 764, or 6.66 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 3,128 cases reported, or 3.76 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 448 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 158,037 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 67.8 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Tuesday, Dec.1 are:

  • Under 10: 586 cases
  • 10 to 19: 1,907 cases
  • 20 to 29: 3,651 cases
  • 30 to 39: 2,934 cases
  • 40 to 49: 2,757 cases
  • 50 to 59: 3,125 cases
  • 60 to 69: 2,331 cases
  • 70 to 79: 1,277 cases
  • 80 and over: 1,532

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Dec. 1, that there were 5,676 new cases of COVID-19 statewide, with the total number of cases now at 367,140.

There were 180 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, with total deaths for Tuesday, Dec. 1 reported at 10,563.
