Appreciating the Grape and More at Penn Woods Winery in Chadds Ford
The ambience of the Penns Woods Winery in Chadds Ford can be credited to Carley Razzi Mack, writes Jenn Ladd for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Mack’s father, Gino Razzi, has owned the winery at 124 Beaver Road since 1999. A wine importer from Abruzzo, he was content just to make his own wine and sell it.
After Mack came to work for him in 2009, she convinced him to bring the wine experience to the public through the vineyard.
“He really wanted me to go into his wine import company,” she says, “but it didn’t interest me. It’s more corporate … Business meetings and suits just wasn’t my style.”
The tasting room was upgraded from a little room with no tables and no chairs, to be more than place where people just bought wine and left.
She realized this area, newer to the wine and vineyard experience, had to be entertained and educated about the wine, to get them excited and passionate about it.
They started offering tastings, crafting events and winery promotions.
Now there’ a staff of 15 and there are daily guests even during the pandemic.
