The birthplace of MOS Technology 6502 and Commodore 64 in Norristown today sits abandoned and in disarray, with some relics of its glorious past still scattered around, writes Bil Herd for the HackaDay.

MOS Technology was founded in 1969 by Allen Bradley. Some of its products revolutionized the budding computer industry, including its venerable 6502 microprocessor, the VIC video chip, and SID sound chip.

Herd worked at Commodore Business Machines decades ago when it was situated in the same building as MOS Technology. He recently got approval to once again visit the now-abandoned headquarters, which he has documented in a video.

And while he found the building mostly in ruin, the basement – dirty and flooded – still contained parts from computers he had worked on.  Broken machines that once represented the best that the industry had to offer were strewn around the floor.

“The second floor was where our offices had been,” wrote Herd. “The hot press of design deadlines has long since left this space, now all there is to see is the golf course out the window and a little camp fire someone had made.”
