Many U.S. Presidents and Presidential Candidates Have Stopped Off in Delaware County

Delaware County has been visited by several presidential candidates over the decades from both sides of the political fence, writes Pete Bannon for the Daily Times.

Here’s a list.

John F. Kennedy.

In 1960: Visited the Aronimink Golf Club, Lawrence Park Shopping Center, and stopped in Chester.

Richard Nixon

In 1960: Visited Market Square in Chester, the Springfield and Lawrence Park Shopping Centers.

In 1968: Visited 69th Street, the Bazaar of All Nations, the Springfield and Lawrence Park Shopping centers and Radnor.

President Lyndon B. Johnson

In 1964: Received an honorary degree at Swarthmore College’s 91st Commencement.

Republican Sen. Barry Goldwater

In 1964: Received an honorary degree from Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University).

Robert Kennedy

In 1968:  Visited the Broomall Restaurant in Ridley, the Bazaar of All nations in Upper Darby, the Darby post office, the Alpine Inn in Springfield and Lady of Fatima Parochial School in Ridley.

Jimmy Carter

In 1976: Visited Wayne.

In 1979: Commencement speaker at Cheyney University in Thornbury.

In 1980: Visited Mr. and Mrs. Joseph (Bertha) Phillips in Lansdowne.

Ronald Reagan

In 1980: Began his presidential campaign in Folcroft.

In 1984: Visited Delaware County Courthouse in Media.

In 1988: Visited Upper Darby High School.

Geraldine Ferraro

In 1984: Visited Drexel Hill Middle School.

George H.W. Bush

In 1993: Visited Springfield Municipal Building.

Barack Obama

In 2008: Visited Widener University.

Donald Trump

In 2016: Visited Aston Community Center, Sun Center Studios Stage 2 in Chester Township.

Hilary Clinton

In 2008: Town Hall Event at Radnor High School.

In 2016: Visited Haverford Community Recreation and Environmental Center.
