It’s Back. Mysterious Odor Again Permeates Delaware County Towns

That mysterious odor has returned here in Delaware County and now it’s also in Salem, New Jersey, writes Matt Bennett for patch. com.

Delaware County Emergency Services announced the odor was back, reported on social media by residents in Sharon Hill, Aston, Haverford, Darby and other locations.

As before, the origin of the smell is unknown.

“At this time, neither County is aware of the source,” Delaware County Emergency Services said. “The Wide Area Odor Investigation Task Force is collecting air samples and wind speed/direction. No hazardous levels have been detected.”

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and in Delaware and New Jersey are investigating.

At least one social media user reported getting a headache from the smell.

The odor is described as chlorine-like, something burning, or paint thinner.

Anyone who suspects they detect a hazardous gas should call 911.

Those who believe the odor is more a nuisance than a hazard should report it to the DEP online here.

The mystery odor occurred in March this year and in October 2019.
