40 New Cases of COVID-19 Reported in Delaware County on Friday, for a Total of 9,990

There were 40 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Delaware County for Friday, Aug. 21, by the Chester County Health Department, bringing the total number of cases to 9,990.

Two additional COVID-19-related deaths have been reported, with the total number now at 770.

Of those, 602 were in long term care facilities and personal care homes, according to data from the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have now been reported in 39 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. It has 501 cases, affecting 4.37percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases reported, at 1,584, affecting 1.91 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

The following are the number of reported cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County, listed by municipality in descending order of caseload, indicating which communities saw an increase in cases based on previously unassigned cases and new cases since Wednesday, Aug. 19, the last date these statistics were reported.

There are 292 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 79,175 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 77.37 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups as of Aug. 21 are:

  • Under 10: 156 cases (up 1)
  • 10 to 19: 602 cases (up 6)
  • 20 to 29: 1,644 cases (up 9)
  • 30 to 39: 1,386 cases
  • 40 to 49: 1,319 cases (up 10)
  • 50 to 59: 1,557 cases (up 4)
  • 60 to 69: 1,274 cases (up 5)
  • 70 to 79: 792 cases (up 2)
  • 80 and over: 1,259 cases (up 4)

Pennsylvania data

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Aug. 21, that there were 693 new cases of COVID-19 across the state since Thursday, Aug. 20, bringing the statewide total to 127,633.

There were 20 new COVID-19 related deaths reported, with the total now at 7,558.
