The Philadelphia Union will be the first local professional sports team to return to the live sports scene after COVID-19, followed a few weeks later by the Philadelphia 76ers, writes Kevin Kinkead for crossingbroad.com.

The Union will be in Orlando, beginning a “MLS Is Back” tournament July 8. The Sixers will play July 31st in Orlando.

Major League Soccer has announced it will restart the 2020 season with all 26 MLS clubs. They will compete in the “MLS is Back” Tournament at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

The tournament will be played without fans in the stands but will be televised.

Clubs will head to Orlando June 24 for preseason training.

The MLS will be leading the way in game play, getting started before the NBA, NHL and MLB, which may get them some new fans as people trapped in the time loop of the pandemic seek out new game viewing.

“There’s an opportunity here for the Union to pick up some new fans while the “four for four” Philly guy is waiting for the return of football, baseball, basketball, and hockey,” writes Kinkead.
