Neither one made a good first impression when they met at a healing prayer church service in 2010, writes Kellie Patrick Gates for  The Philadelphia Inquirer.

But they  stayed with it.  David and Carrie, 68, now-married , retired and living in Springfield, just celebrated their eighth anniversary.

Carrie was devoted to missionary work, spending 24 years with the residents of Tchekos in Cameroon.

David, too, had hoped to dedicate himself to the Lord’s work, but circumstances led him to working in the oil industry and later assembling cabinets.

David realized Carrie could be very good for him and by January 2011, they were on a second date—a Christian concert.

That clinched it.

“She was always willing to go out with me. Every weekend, we were together.”

They turned to their church and prayer for guidance on the relationship.

The two Penncrest High School graduates say their faith in God and strong belief that He brought them together made them determined to work things out.

Ten months after their first date, David proposed.

Today, they stay busy with volunteer work at Risen Hope Church in Drexel Hill, the Media Food Bank the and Philadelphia Bible Study.
