Communities of color in Delaware County and across the United States are at higher risk of being affected by coronavirus deaths, write Aaron Williams and Adrian Blanco for The Washington Post.

This is due in part to higher chronic health conditions and higher social vulnerability, including living conditions and access to health care.

The city of Chester, with a minority population above 50 percent, is highly vulnerable.

The area has diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity rates that all beat the national average.

The area also has overcrowded households and a high percentage of people with no health insurance.

Brookhaven has similar chronic conditions and a low level of people with health insurance, which also makes it highly vulnerable.

Upper Darby Township, which is not considered a highly vulnerable area, still  has a high number of uninsured and increased percentages of several chronic health conditions.
